In order to save money, you need to know where it's going. Keep track of every dime you spend for 31 days (ex. gasoline, doctor visits & medications, snacks, newspapers, bus fare, lunches out, etc.). Mark whether it was a planned or spontaneous purchase. At the end of 31 days, categorize your spending and you'll be able so see if there is any waste or if there are areas where you can cut back.
VitaTops and VitaBrownies are delicious treats that are 100 calories each and 2 grams of fat. They have 50% of many vitamins and minerals. The VitaTops are like muffin tops and they come in several flavors. (Deep Velvety Chocolate & Banana Nut are my faves.) The VitaBrownie...well, it's a little brownie. They're not very sweet, but they satisfy. They're found in the freezer section where natural/organic foods are and are available in most chain grocery stores.
If I'm cleaning 1 room and find something that belongs in another room, I go to the other room and find myself cleaning in there. Instead, I now use empty laundry baskets to hold all the things that go in other rooms. When I'm done in room 1, I take the basket of stuff that belongs in room 2 and put them away, then room 3, etc. That way, I avoid running from room to room and I actually get at least 1 room completely clean!
...when it comes to meals, that is. I eat a lot of frozen meals for breakfast and lunch during the week (like Weight Watchers and Lean Cuisine meals). It takes the guess work out of what I'll eat, their fairly healthy and they're always handy, so "no time to cook" is not an excuse. (If you're watching your sodium, try some Healthy Choice meals.) I eat fresh fruits for healthy snacks and I cook my dinners and weekend meals (and try to get in the veggies!).
Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where we may not have a healthy meal or snack on hand as we're out and about. Be prepared ahead of time in case you absolutely have to make a fast food stop. Research menus online and make a list of healthier options at local fast food places. Keep the list in your car (next to a baggie of almonds !) so you're ready to make good choices if and when it becomes necessary.
I try to have 1 glass of water when I wake up in the morning, and 1 glass of water before bed every night. That leaves only 6 glasses of water for me to get over the course of my day. Six glasses over 12 to 14 hours doesn't seem very daunting at all! If I can do it, so can you!
If you're like me, getting your 8 cups or more every day can be a challenge. Try drinking a cold glass of water 1st thing in the morning when you get out of bed. Somehow, this actually makes me crave water throughout the day. And I can start the count down that much sooner...1 glass down, 7 more to go.
I usually walk on my lunch break and, sometimes I get a little sweaty. I keep a small container of unscented baby wipes and a travel size deodorant in my desk drawer. That way I can still find time to fit in my exercise and not be "offensive" to my coworkers...or myself!
