If hiking trails are available in your area, give it a try. Maintaining your balance with a backpack (for me it's a Camelbak with water, snacks and camera) while traveling across uneven terrain is a great calorie! The views are great also.
I claim I don't like the cold and tend not to walk as much as I do in warmer weather. This winter I've decided that I would just 'get out and do it' and found that as long as I bundle up with an adequate amount of layered clothing, I've been able to walk much longer/farther than I ever expected I would.
I don't like apples but love applesauce. Commercially prepared applesauce is potentially loaded with preservatives so I make my own. I buy at least two varieties of apples, peel, core and slice them, add cinnamon to taste and a tiny bit of water and cook to the consistency I like. Most recipes I've seen online say to add sugar or sugar substitute but I prefer using two or more less tart varieties of apples such as Gala or Fuji and skip adding the sweetener.
I find it hard to drink water but have no problem drowning in Pepsi every day. I now tell myself that I cannot have a Pepsi until I've had at least 6 glasses of water. On most days I've found that I sometimes don't even want the Pepsi at the end of teh day.
