When going through closets, keep several boxes or baskets at hand labeled "keep", "toss", or "give away." The "keep" boxes can be further labeled "winter," "summer" and "year-round." Then as you are going through your stuff, just put in the appropriate box. The "give-away" stuff can go to Goodwill or charity for the homeless. The "toss" will be for stuff that is too stained, worn, etc. to be used. Put a lid on the box of stuff that is out of season to store away. Rest goes back in the closet.
If you use hairpsray, and find you reapply it often, you can cut down on your hairspray use by using a fine mist of water instead of reapplying. It will "recharge" the hairspray already in your hair. Just don't go overboard and soak it; a light mist will do. Then push into place with your fingers or a comb and let dry. Your hair also won't get weighed down by too much styling product.
I discovered a new use for an old toothbrush. When coloring your hair an easy way to color hard-to-reach places is to squeeze the hair color on an old toothbrush then draw it through your hair. This works good for spots such as around the ears and at the base of your hairline on the back of your neck. This way you don't get the haircolor all over your skin in those hard-to-reach spots!
For a great snack, stock up on the California clementines that are plentiful in the winter. They peel easy, are almost seedless, and small enough you can eat 2 or 3 at a time. Makes for a healthy treat-they're packed with Vitamin C, and juicy and sweet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth!
If you get a hole in one sock, or "lose" one in the laundry, don't discard the other sock from the pair. If you have a cat that loves catnip, just stuff a bunch of catnip in the toe of the extra sock. Then tie the open end into a knot to close it, and voila! --instant cat toy! Your cat will love you! No more spending $$$ on expensive cat toys. I have catnip growing wild in my yard, and do this every year.
I print out my grocery coupons from both the MyPoints and Inbox Dollars sites. They carry the same as coupons.com and sometimes extras. You earn 10 MyPoints for each of their coupons, or 10 cents towards rewards on Inbox Dollars. They really add up and you get extra rewards in addtion to the grocery savings.
If your garbage disposal starts smelling, just empty a packet or two of True Lemon into the disposal while it is running. Then you don't have to waste a real lemon, and it works just as good as the real thing.
Keep antibacterial hand sanitizer at your desk and in your purse. Besides using it on your hands, apply a dab on a tissue to wipe down your phone handset, mouse, keyboard and any other surfaces where germs can get transferred. I also keep one in my purse; it works well on public toilet seats and door handles. If used regularly you shouldn't catch as many colds.
I keep a master travel folder and when planning a trip I make a subfolder in which I put hotel reservation confirmations, tickets to events, restaurant ideas, etc. so they are all in one place. I mark the folder with the dates and destination so all the info is easy to grab on the day that we leave.
