Corn has SURPRISING Benefits!

I LOVE corn! Fresh from the garden and especially on the cob, it is one of my favorite vegetables! But I did not know til reading The Doctors Book of Food Remedies by Selene Yeager and the Editors of Prevention Magazine that it can help lower cholestrol because it has a soluble fiber that binds with bile{ a cholestrol-type fluid created by our liver} and leaves our bodies as it is undigestible.Also because of the fiber it contains, it seems to help in fighting cancers such as lung cancer and

To Exercise or Not is your LOSS or Gain!

This past week has been the BEST for me and I am SURPRISED I have lost weight without tracking on paper! I have three years experience on SP with tracking my Nutrition so I know what to do and I STILL measure my food,not eyeball it! But though I lost the wt. with the Nutrition tracker through SP, I am learning if I DO NOT exercise AT LEAST 30 minutes a day, WATCHING VERY CAREFULLY what I EAT, I will gain the weight lost back. I have lost 20 lbs. through SP in 5 mos.

Water + Exercise = Daily For Optimum Health!

When I drink enough water and exercise daily, I tend to EAT HEALTHY ; when I don't , I just do not FEEL as healthy and generally that is the case!

Works for Me~30 min. of Walking Per Day!!!!

I am reading a book that has helped me with my weight loss{it jumpstarted it ,actually!} and the very FIRST STEP {pun intended!} is WALKING a total of 30 minutes daily . The book is called YOU On A Diet: A Guide to Waist Management by Dr.Michael Roizen and Dr.Mehmet Oz.{They also wrote YOU:The Owner's Manual}. Staying on the Defense for Fighting Infections!

One of my Sparkfriends has an infected foot and as I was reading The Doctors Book of Food Remedies {by Selene Yeager & the Editors of Prevention Magazine} I came across on p.350~ a garlicky soup recipe{it is a published work so I can't post recipe} and Eating for Immunity~Vit A ~carrots,spinach,kale,yellow & orange squash & mustard greens{that provides the immunity defense } and Vit .C ~oranges and broccoli provide the offense{words used in the book~though I know Super Bowl Sunday is tomorrow!

How Old is that Cottage Cheese?

When you are looking for something to eat in the fridge ,it's IMPORTANT to know the DATE of when a container was opened. I thought up a simple system that has helped me. I just opened a new container of cottage cheese today.When I am finished with my helping, I CLOSE the container and WRITE on it with a Sharpie permanent marker the DATE I OPENED it ~for example,OPENED 1/5/13. Then I know WHEN it was opened and how GOOD or bad THE CONTENTS IS without having to guess!

Drink Orange Juice with that Oatmeal!

I was surprised to learn when eating fortified oatmeal , our bodies don't absorb all the IRON it has. So, in order to help our bodies retain the iron in oatmeal, we need to consume ORANGE JUICE along with the oatmeal . This information was found in the Martha Stewart Living ",May 2012 issue,p.140. Other "healthful pairings " of food ~peanut butter +banana{potassium/ less sodium},tomato+olive oil{lycopene/fat},whole grain cereal +milk {calcium/magnesium},chicken +carrots{zinc/VitaminA}.More

Whose water bottle is this?

I happily now have my whole family drinking PLAIN water {though we used to LOVE Propel!} and with that accomplishment comes everyone's water bottle and no identification! So, we put our first initial or both intials on the cap and it solves the problem! Plus if someone is sick, I know WHICH water bottle is mine!

Keep Up with the Healthy Habits ~a little at a time!

I lost 20 lbs in 5 mos. on SP two years ago and have kept almost all of it off in that time to this date~2.9.2012. Now that I am not able to be on SP as much due to other commitments, I still try to stick with what has worked for me in the past~weighing myself every couple of days or at least 1x/wk. to keep track of how I am doing;drinking plenty of water ~at least 8 glasses if I can and at EVERY meal; measuring my portions of fats and food{it DOES really make a difference for me!];tracking

Getting your Second Wheel Spin in ~~ FASTER!

I like the "NEW" feature [at least it is new to us "old-timers"~ SParkers who have been on at least a year] of getting to spin the wheel twice. I noticed that if I want to spin quickly, I can tap my point total DIRECTLY instead of going all the way down the list to "another spin" and it will allow me to take my second spin right then. May not be much of a secret, but saving every minute on SP so I can do something else like chatting with my friends about the latest Cricut -licious swap...
