Don't overdo cereal!

Cereal portions are a lot smaller than the bowls we eat out of! When I have actually measured out the serving sizes, they are so small I end up deciding to double it--not like I need the calories! An easy fix is to pour the milk into the bowl first. The cereal seems to settle into an empty bowl, but if the milk is already there, the bowl appears more full, and that makes it easier to accept the portion size as a decent meal.

My glass is never empty.

While I am at work, I will have an occasional cup of coffee. However, I keep a tall mug of water on my desk at all times so that I can sip on it throughout the day. As soon as I have swallowed the last, I get up and go get more water. If I did not do this, I would not drink nearly as much water as I do throughout the day. A bonus is that the stainless steel inside of the mug I use adds no flavors to the water I'm drinking--I hate when my drink tastes like some other, absorbed flavor!

Kids Play With Their Food and Eat Less

My child has to be coerced to eat--there are certain foods she enjoys eating herself, but she runs off & plays between bites. I stretch out my meals so I'm taking bites when she is. I eat less & feel more full. My portions are bigger than hers, but my bites are, too. Plus, I've learned the value of making finger foods fun, healthy, & kid-friendly at the same time. I want her to eat healthy, & it's impossible for me to cook healthy for her but not for me, because she wants whatever I have!
