Everyone has an opinion--on what to eat, when to exercise, how to do just about anything. We should be willing to hear other opinions, learn from other's experiences, etc. BUT we also have to be true to ourselves! Do what works for YOU, even if it's not the norm. After all, it's YOUR journey!
Most of us rely on the scale to tell us if our efforts are working. It's time to think outside of the box!! Body measurements, how clothes fit, being less winded, how we feel & having more energy are all signs of success. Pay attention to them--not the scale--and you'll feel better all around!
We often beat ourselves up over our bad choices, failed attempts, etc. We probably wouldn't talk to a dog the way we talk to ourselves!! When you find yourself doing this, ask yourself if you'd say the same to a loved one? This reminds me that I have to treat myself as well as I treat others!
I have a calendar that hangs where I can always see it (one at home & one at work) & I give myself a sticker for each day that I stick to my fitness streak. It sounds silly but it's great to see the colorful stickers & it makes me not want to see any blank days! There's a reason teachers use this!
Promise yourself that you'll do at least 5 minutes of exercise per day. The likelihood is that you'll get into it enough that you'll keep going. If not, 5 minutes is at least better than no minutes at all!
Everyone has bad days/weeks/months/whatever. We all fall off the wagon sometimes. The key is to GET BACK UP AGAIN! Beating yourself up only makes it harder to get back to it. So, forgive yourself, and put it behind you. GET BACK UP AND GET BACK TO IT!!
ANYBODY CAN COOK!! I used to think I couldn't, but I don't think that way anymore! With all of the recipes here, all it takes to be a great cook is the ability to read and the willingness to TRY!!! Check out SparkRecipes and GO FOR IT!!
Healthy eating can seem boring but it doesn't have to be! Thanks to SP, I'm trying new recipes several times a week--learning to use different spices, enjoying different flavors, etc. It keeps it interesting and with all the recipes here, it's EASY, too!!
I'm learning that ALL activity is/can be exercise! You don't just have to go to the gym for 90 minutes to get fit! I play my Wii, take short walks at lunch, whip out the stretch band for a quick toning during commercials. This makes it fun and easy. 5, 10, or 90 minutes, it still counts!!
The best way for me to stay motivated is to basically submerge myself in healthy living/fitness. There's no better way to do that than this site! The articles, pages, recipes, people, etc help me to stay focused, informed and positive about the journey ahead. Thank you Spark People!!!
