I used to leave the gym tired, worn out and feeling like a failure because I was out of shape (I would always quit going after those thoughts started coming). I changed the voice in my head so it now says "I am healthier than I was yesterday!" For me this creates a feeling of a mini goal that I have accomplished and it always makes me feel great and motivates me to work out tomorrow to get even healthier! There are no small victories when it comes to your health!
I amdealing with arthritis, so it's important for me to get up and move around so I don't "freeze up." I use an online timer and set it for 30 minutes. When it goes off, I do a variety of things. Sometimes I get up and walk to the ladies' room - if there's a line (which there usually is) I do some posture exercises against the wall. Sometimes I'll use one of Spark's seated workouts - core, arm, cardio or even just a desk stretch. And sometimes I'll get up and do some leg strengthening exercises.
Before I start my treadmill workout in the morning, I take a few minutes to focus on what my daily/weekly goal is. Instead of watching the time (45 minutes more to go!), I ask myself how can I make my workout more affective? Since I am doing the time, I may as well reap the benefits.
I find that if I have a gym bag at the ready, I'm more apt to go and get my exercise done right after work. Otherwise, I might be tempted to go home and snack and nap or just be done for the day.
I am more motivated to get a work out immediately on my way home from work before I get home and get bombarded with all the stuff going on at my house. I bring my workout clothes with me to work in my car and work out right after work!
So the science says that sitting can negate the hard work out you just did - not a problem, just move it. Get up & walk, dance, run, skip, shimmy, or whatever about every 30 minutes. Wear a pedometer & get those 5 miles a day in - you'll be healthier & fitter in no time!
I know the volume of all my pots, pans and dishes. It's taken me a while to figure out how handy this is but it makes a big difference in acuratley tracking. I know which are my one cup bowls, my juice cups that measure exactly 1/2 cup and my 3/4 cup ladle. Knowing pots and pans volume helps alot too when calculating my own recipes.
