DIABETES FREEDOM!!!!!

I was diagnosed with diabetes 10/10 (A1C of 7.1) and I decided at that very moment, this was not going to be a part of me.

By being extremely diligent about my water consumption, carb intake(even lower than Sparkpeople's recommendation) and making sure I did 45-60mins of cardio 6 days a week, I was able to lose 19lbs and bring my A1C down to 5.9.

Now, I am diabetes-free after only 5 months!!!!

Sweet/Salty craving

Carrots and hummus are an excellent way to curb the sweet/salty craving. 15 baby carrots with 1tbs. of hummus is 70cals. and no guilt.

Kids make a difference

Get the kids involved and you will see how much they motivate you. My kids remind me to log my food and they love to exercise with me. They even read labels while we grocery shop and make good suggestions about what to buy. They also love being able to measure food on the food scale and with the measuring cups. This has turned out to be fun and we all are enjoying our new lifestyle.

Encourage others

When you encourage others, you not only make them feel good but you feel good and work harder on your goal.

Hide the DINGDANG thing!

To keep myself from getting SCALE RAGE, I had my kids hide the scale and made them promise not to tell me where it is until my weigh in dates. This keeps me from weighing myself everyday and being pissed off and eventually giving up like I have done so many times before.

Getting it all in

In order to get a lot of the good stuff(fruits and veggies) in, I make smoothies which are easier to drink.

I find it really hard to sit and eat each fruit or veggies separately. I also cut up, sauté, and put my veggies in spaghetti sauce. emoticon

Tracking contest

Had to convince hubby to join me on SparkPeople and now he is my best buddy. So this weekend, we started a little contest by accident. We try to see who can stay within their Spark calories from food and calories burned as well as trying to outdo the other in cardio. The kids are now taking sides between me and the hubby. Naturally, my daughter is on my side and my son is on daddy's side. Try a little family competition; eating healthy and exercising becomes fun instead of work. emoticon
