Remember this is a Journey not a Sprint

It's so easy to have a winner take all attitude when ou first begin; but it's important to remember that the gaining of the weight didn't happen overnight therefore losing it won't happen overnight. Focus on getting healthier, eating right, moving more, doing more. Set mini-goals such as trying to eat your daily serving of fruits and veggies each day. Drinking more water and less soda. Celebrate each small victory. Believe you can do this, Know you WILL do this.Commit to it.

Plan your meals

Use Sparkpeople food tracker (especially as a mobile app) and plan your meals so you can see the amount of calorie and nutritional distribution for the day. Stick to it. Most likely this will result in weightloss.

Target and Coupons

Not many people are aware of this, but target will accept one of their coupons PLUS a manufacturers coupon for items. I always go online and print coupons right from their website as well. You just have to be careful that those you print say Target vs manufacturer coupons, because they offer those on their site as well.

Reminder to Self: Do One Small Thing at a Time

I know I try to multi-task too often, so this is a reminder to me (and maybe for some of you) to do one small thing at a time when it comes to wellness and healthy choices. It's easy to get in the "overwhelmed and out-of-control" mood when there is too much going on. Take a moment, stop what you are doing, and work on drinking an extra glass of water when things feel like they are out of control. We can do this because we have all these wonderful SP members and staff to help!! emoticon

Small Changes Add Up Fast!

I make a goal for myself to make one small change for the better every week. These small changes have added up fast. It can be like, eat one vegetable every day. Or, this week I started composting. Smaller is better. Small changes are easy to stick with. You can add to them later.

Let Friends Guide from The Other Side

I lost 4 dear friends in 1 year to heart disease and stroke. I pray for them and meditate on those happy days. Each had the opportunity to change lifestyle, and just couldn't make it work. Their memories and struggles made me determine that no one will have to wish that I had done more to last longer in this life. Morbid? A little. But it's working for me. I lowered my cholesterol 115 pts in 3 months and dropped 35 lb, and now 6 months into my program I am holding steady with diet and exercise.

Kitchen Timer

Whenever I am craving sweet or wanting to eat something I shouldn't... I go in my kitchen and set the timer for 10 min. By the time it dings and time is up.. I am usually so busy with something else that I totally forgot what I was craving. This has saved me many splurges!

Look at pictures

I look at a picture of myself when I was younger and healthier and I look at a picture of myself when I was my heaviest and I tell myself I want to be like that and not like that ever again! The picture of me as my heaviest really motivates me to never want to look that bad again
