Every vegetable has it's own subtle unique flavor. Asparagus, artichoke, avocado, carrot, parsnip etc. each deserve a chance to be savored without being overpowered with other flavorings at least once. Try a quick steam and really taste the vegetable. Enhance them if you must, but try it once.
To peel fresh peaches or tomatoes easily, submerge the fruit into simmering water for a few seconds and then plunge them into an ice water bath. The skins will slip off without the fruit being cooked. It works on pearl onions too.
When reading a nutrition label, I try to pay less attention to the calorie count and more to the nutrition. "Lo Fat" items often are loaded with sugars and sodium. Or the calorie count may be reasonable, but contains only fats, I can't afford to waste my calories on Junk Foods.
Check your prescriptions! Is it your name? Is the refill the same ! Is the dosage what your doctor told you? Recently a pharmacy filled the correct Med. but the wrong person, and the same pharmacy misread the doctor's writing and filled the medicine in a much stronger dosage than prescribed.
Often I have to serve dinner later than I would like, since we always try to sit down together. To keep from over eating because I am too hungry , a small snack holds me over and I can wait dinner comfortably. It doesn't take much, less than 100 calories and I am fine.
To keep track of my water intake, I fill a pitcher with the eight glasses of water and leave it on the kitchen counter. With it in plain sight, I can see when I need to drink even though I am not thirsty. Out of sight, Out of mind. If at work, the desk would work.
If you have a menu that you eat on a regular basis, you can go back to a day that has that menu logged and copy it to the current date. My breakfast seldom varies. Oatmeal with cinnamon and cranraisons, 1/4 cup 1% milk, 1 cup orange juice, Coffee with 14 cup milk. I can log all this with one click.
