Who doesn't love being squeaky clean? Every morning I allow showering to be my reward for a minimum 20 minute workout. If I don't workout, then I can't shower which means I have to go to work dirty, etc etc etc - see the picture? I wouldn't just be blowing off a workout - I'd be blowing off the whole day! So I get up, workout, THEN shower and start my day. If I'm running late then that means I don't get to shave :-/ (also motivation to get going early ha ha)
I keep a small box of Truvia (stevia plant all natural sweetener) in my purse, and an individual packet of Truvia in my wallet. When I eat out, rather than order the sugary lemonades offered on the menu ( which are usually made by mixing lemonade syrup and water), I order a large glass of water and lemon wedges. Then I squeeze the lemon wedges and add Truvia to my water - VOILA! I have made my own healthy, served-to-taste lemonade! (and I saved money!)
The first Friday of each month I document my progress in pounds & inches (chest, abdomen, waist, hips, left thigh, right thigh, left calve, right calve, left arm, right arm) in a table I created for the whole year. I also keep a separate day planner where I check in how I'm doing on a daily basis. Every Friday morning I weigh myself nude (right after waking up) and write it in my day planner. Over time I can reflect on my moods and daily/monthly/yearly progress! Change happens in the long run!
Research has shown that it takes people approximately 28 days to pick up (or leave) a habit. Instead of making resolutions for the new year, why not aim to make a total of 12 resolutions for the whole year? Decide what change you want to make each month, and start on the first day of the new month! By the end of the month your resolution has become a habit and you can move on to the next one! This makes sustaining multiple resolutions easier.
Begin your day by keeping a positive motivational mantra in mind. Every morning before I do anything else - checking the time or hitting "snooze" - I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, smile (thinking of my husband laughing brings a huge smile to my face), and repeat the following mantra:
It takes about 20 minutes for chemicals in your body to signal your brain when you're full. By eating 20 peanuts, 12 almonds, or 6 walnuts with a glass of water 20 minutes before a meal, you can naturally trigger the release of these chemicals. You'll end up eating less!!! This is an especially helpful tip during the Holidays and when going to a buffet.
For every pound I lose I put five $1 bills in a large shoe box. The more I lose, the bigger my pile gets and the more motivated I feel. Once I reach my weight goal, I plan to go on a shopping spree for a new (and hard-earned) wardrobe!!!
Sometimes the best way to get in a positive mindset is to say positive things. Don't be afraid to compliment strangers as they pass you by the street. Not only will you brighten someone's day, and have a brighter outlook yourself, but you might also make a new friend!
Every morning as soon as I wake up I drink 4-6 cups of water before eating anything. I consider it my morning "cleanse" and start to a new day of eating healthy and exercising. Not only do I get a great morning hydration, but I also am reminded to do well that day.
