The 500 Step Rule

For those just starting out, little things make the difference. The basis of the 500 Step Rule is to take 500 steps every time you get up, as soon as you wake up, before you sit back down, before you eat a meal, etc. This is especially easy if you own a pedometer. If you don't, just walk for 5-10 minutes at a consistent pace. Aim for a total of 5000 steps the first few days of doing this, then increase the number every day until you are consistently walking 10000+ steps each and every day.

Budget your nighttime snack.

There is no need to fight nighttime food cravings if you plan for them. Every morning, take a second to budget out a post-dinner snack. By doing this, you are less likely to go over your calorie range or to succumb to eating something unhealthy. Make it a special treat that you can look forward to all day.
