Dice it up

I dice up a few onions and green pepper and put them in the fridge for the week. So when I make omelets, hot sandwiches, scrambled eggs or the other many things I like them in. I am more likely to use them because they are ready to use. I figure I add in about 2-3 servings of veggie a week that I would have skipped out on.

Eggs ready to eat

I keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge for a quick protein snack thats under 100 calories. My kids love them too! and whats better then that hearing your kids ask for an egg instead of a cookie?

Pre-package it your self

I refuse to pay more for less. Those cute little individual packages of snacks for kids and other controlled portion needs are every where! They are bad for my budget and the environment. I just measure out 100 calorie servings or 1 serving size and store them in tiny reusable bowls with lids. The kids love to help and it might take me 20 minutes a month. It also helps to make sure i do not grab the whole box of cheese-its when watching a movie!

Veggies incognito

I sneak in extra servings of vitamin packed veggie like squash in to my families meals by adding shredded up and/or purees to the dishes I cook.

More reading, less screen time!

My 8 year old loves to play video games (who doesn't right?) but before she allowed to play she has to read for the amount of time she wants to play for the day. Her game time is cut off at an hour each day. That way if she wants to play for an hour she has to read for an hour first.

Easy "Green" Wood cleaner/polish

Instead of furniture polish I use a dab of olive oil with a few drops of lemon juice on my cloth. It keeps the wood healthy and looking good... it is also very inexpensive.

Presentation is important

To put a little extra wow in healthy eating for my kids, I make the food look interesting... like making veggie "sushi" instead of just salad, same ingredients just looking much more fun! emoticon
