You Don't Have To Eat the Serving Size

Just because they give you the serving size in the nutritional information doesn't mean that you have to eat that amount. If you want to have a little more of one item, maybe eat less than the serving size of something else to balance it.

Exercise Instead of Caffeine

Instead of using caffeine to keep yourself awake, trying doing a short (maybe 10 minute) workout. Because of my new life schedule, I' m having trouble staying awake to get everything done. Instead of buying a coffee yesterday, I did a 10 minute cardio workout, and it helped me stay awake for the duration of my work shift and my drive home - and I never had to deal with that caffeine crash!

Starbucks Choices

You can make healthier choices when you treat yourself to a tasty Starbucks (or Barnes & Noble Cafe!) beverage: ask for skim milk (I believe the default is 2%, and remember that the soy milk isn't fat free). If you want a syrup - or if the drink comes with flavors-, ask if they have the sugar-free variety. Opt out of the whip cream - painful, I know, but the drinks are still tasty!

Put A Little Aside

Every Friday, after I get paid, I take out $40 cash and put half in one envelope, half in the other. Once I get a good amount, I'm going to research the banks and find the best interest rate on CDs. Then I'll invest them both - but with different expiration dates.

Use the Food Tracker to Plan Your Day

If I'm craving a specific food or am planning on going to a specific restaurant for friends, I type in the meals I'm planning on eating for the day to check my calorie count. That way I can alter what I'm eating to accommodate the food I want to eat so I don't go over my numbers.

Play with your kid's Razor

After dropping off my nephew at the bus stop, I use his Razor to walk the dog around the block. It reminds me that I don't enjoy myself as much as I used to do as a kid. The dog gets to run faster, and I get a better workout.

Hula Hoop!

A big fan of multitasking, I love the fact that I can hula hoop while doing other things - I watch TV and hula hoop; sometimes I read while I hula hoop. I'm also saving up for hula rings so I can use them on my arms at the same time.

T-SHIRT MOTIVATION

I bought a cool t-shirt, and my nephew said it looked like it could fit the 16 month old. I put it on and said it would look good when I lost some weight. He said I already looked like I had washboard abs! I now wear it when I need to remember how far I've come.
