I see everyone saying use cash however we do just the opposite. We use our M&T Bank rewards card for every purchase we can including groceries, dinners out, gas, tuition and vacations. We then subtract it from our checkbook as if we have used a debit card and then pay off that credit card at the end of each month. You don't pay interest as long as you pay by the due date and you earn points that you can trade in for gift cards etc. You do have to be disciplined to use this method!!
My husband lost his job 9 weeks ago. We decided that $120 a month for satellite was out of our budget. We cancelled it and picked up Hulu for $9.00 a month. It has tons of shows (new ones) that air 24 hours after it's on the networks. We love it. We are getting to experience new series, and save TONS of money!
Many times when I am having a great calorie intake day, there is a little monster who strikes - the "that is most gorgeous pizza I have ever seen" monster. What I've learned about giving into temptation is that I tell myself I can eat that on my "free" day. I let myself have one once every other week - and then I get it out of my system. In fact, next Saturday, I will be eating Chinese, Pizza, and brownies. Usually when it gets to that day I find one of those things is just enough.
Don't focus on a big goal. Focus on the choices you make, telling yourself you only have to make it til lunch, or til bedtime depending on the time of day you're focusing on. Splitting it up like that helps TREMENDOUSLY for those who feel like their willpower is weak! :)
What have you written? Do you get a negative feel, as in "I´ve never been able to lose weight..", "I´m always letting myself down" etc. Change all those words into positives! For example "I know I can lose weight and I will" Because your time is now.
Get a United States map (or whatever country you are in), choose a start and finish line, and map your progress. Use a highlighter or marker to "tick off" your progress from, for example, New York City to Los Angeles. Whether you are running, walking or biking, it's fun to see how far you've gone and how much remains until you reach your goal. Then when you do, throw a party!
I put a sign above the sink stating "No dirty dishes in the sink." It's easier to get the dishes started when they are not piled in there, and it makes you feel better to have a clean sink. Also, people are forced to stack dishes as we have limited counter space beside the sink.
I bring a big earthen money box which has only one opening to put in cash. That way I'll have to wait till the box is full, to break it open. This helps me avoid temptations, save wisely and best of all - when I crack it open, I land with more cash than I could think of. Once almost $300 dollars!
