Do Something Different

I've had a lifelong struggle with my weight. This time I decided I would do things I have never done before in my effort to lose weight, and win my battle for good.
So far I'm down 50 pounds. What I've learned is that you have to keep recommitting, and reinventing your program so that you don't get tired of it.
When it comes to working out you have to keep your body "surprised". Try adding a new challenge once a month. And try to add a new healthy food every time you go to the grocery store.

Sugar vs artificial sugar

I asked a nurse practioner if she heard that artificial sweetners were dangereous she had printed out some info and it scared me Splenda-your body doesn't recognize it so it hooks on to anything, artificial sweetners such as Equal and sweet and low are not in the healthy group, so I went to my doctor and told him I was not going to use sugar or sweetener and told him about the article he told me since I drink hot tea to use honey and I use a teaspoon of sugar on anything else I need sweet-----

Oatmeal Doesn't Equal Sweet

You do not have to make sweet oatmeal in the mornings. This morning I had Bacon Egg and Cheese Oatmeal.

1/2 c Oatmeal
1c. water
1 egg
Pepper to taste
Microwave high 3-5 minutes ( watch because this boils over so quickly on me)

Add 1/2 TBSP Bacon
1/2 TBSP shredded cheese or feta ( I used Kraft shredded Queso Blanco this morning)

Let this sit to allow the oatmeal to thicken and stir it all together.

Approximately 300 calories and protein! emoticon

Taking Notes

Making use of the Notes section at the bottom of the trackers has helped me to keep track of the lessons I am learning in my first weeks of SparkPeople. I'm treating this as a science experiment so as to not deter myself from progress. By taking notes without judgment, I'm able to see and break patterns. This week I have noticed I am over my daily allowance on weekends and during special events. Now I can plan alternative snacks and be prepared the next time I am at an event or on the weekends.

GIVE IT 5 MINUTES

Promise yourself that you'll do at least 5 minutes of exercise per day. The likelihood is that you'll get into it enough that you'll keep going. If not, 5 minutes is at least better than no minutes at all!

Reward Yourself!

I can not take credit for this idea, but I am using it. Every time you workout, whether it's a short walk, strength training, anything put a dollar in a jar. Set a goal for yourself 50$ or 100$ and then once you meet it treat yourself to a new outfit or something that will make you feel good.

Blending berries!

When you've purchased fresh berries and they start going bad, like you don't really want to use them, blend them, pour them into ice cube trays and use them for smoothies! Saves you money in not through them out and
they are healthy!
