Secrets of Success

Post your secret of success for YOU. It's great to share your secret but it's even better to remember what works best for YOU. As you go through and figure things out for yourself, you might have a tendency to forget certain things (I do). By posting them here, you can go back and look at your postings to remind yourself of what works for you. I'm posting this for myself for that very reason. emoticon

Drinking Water

Tips to get your water for the day:
1) Flavor with a bit of lemon juice (makes it not so blaugh)
2) Drink a glass 1st thing (yes, before the coffee)
3) Try using a straw (I find I drink more often this way)
4) Make a game of it (challenge to beat yourself)
5) Always have some by you (fill up as soon as you run out) emoticon emoticon

Frozen Yogurt with Fruit

Non-Fat Vanilla Frozen Yogurt topped with fresh fruit satisfies the sweet craving yet allows you to get your dairy (without the guilt) and plenty of fruit servings. Favorite fruit toppings for me are raspberries, strawberries, bananas, and pineapple. Use more than one at a time and have fun with it. Great for a light dinner at the end of the day. emoticon emoticon

Set Smaller Goals

Use the site to set smaller goals for yourself when you feel a bigger goal is too hard to accomplish. For example, I am real bad with water so drinking 8 glass per day is out of the question for me (right now). So...I created a smaller goal of drinking 4 glasses per day which keeps me motivated to strive for because I feel it's within reach. I've gone from1 to 4 and hoping to move up soon!

Top of the "to do" list

Any time exercise has ever worked for me is when I make it a priority. I always have a ton of things to do and when I put exercise at the bottom of the list (or do it later in the day), I either don't have time or I'm too tired to get up and do anything. Making it the first thing I do (on a weekend or as soon as I get home from work)...no matter what, is when I keep the promise and it gets done. Still need to work on this but I know it works... emoticon

Eat before you get hungry

I find when I purposely eat a healthy snack (like grapes or carrots) before a meal, it keeps me making the right choices at the meal because I'm not real hungry which sometimes means I'll cheat. It also keeps me on my toes about eating my fruits and veggies.

Automatic debit to ING

I have an automatic debit from my checking to ING Direct (savings). So many times I tell myself I'll put money away if I have it left at the end of the month and then I don't end up doing it. By making it an automatic debit, I know it will get done. Also, by using ING Direct (great rates by the way), I cannot easily transfer it back into my account to use (takes 1-2 business days).
