Since I have a desk job and I am tethered to the phone and computer all day, i don't get many opportunities to get up and move around. so, i listen to music in one ear, take the calls in the other, and move around in my seat to get some activity going. i have been doing this long enough that my co-workers no longer look at me like i'm weird. i know it isn't much exercise, but it is something.
When I am doing Zumba, I make every effort to "exaggerate" some of the moves. I will move my arms when the instructor didn't make that part of the move. I fidget in my chair at my desk when I am at work. I make every effort to walk as much as I can @ work and outside of work. When it is GORGEOUS fall weather in the 50-65 degrees F, I definitely have an easier time walking outside.
I don't know about you, but I don't like TV commercials. so, i mute them. I figured out recently i can get about 20 minutes of exercise during 1 hour of TV shows. So, i do arm exercises, jumping jacks, crunches, etc during the commerical breaks and know that i am getting some more activity in my day.
Some of you may find this gross, and I am sorry. I find it kinda funny. My dog LOVES to lick the floor of our kitchen and dining room. As long as there isn't anything toxic to the dog, I let him clean up the scraps. He does a better job than some of the cleaning products out there.
Find a group class you enjoy, regardless of having a right and left foot or being able to move. When you enjoy the music and the movements are easy and the instructor is motivational, you will be enjoying yourself SO much, you will forget you are exercising. That is what Zumba is for me. I have 2 left feet, no rhythmn, and I COULD CARE LESS!
I walk my dogs every morning, barring any really bad weather (raining hard or extremely cold). They motivate me because they won't give me many opportunities to make excuses. I get a minimum 20 minute walk at least once a day. AND, if I am walking both of them, I get some arm exercise trying to keep Kirby from chasing cats/squirrels/rabbits/deer, and Ziggy from getting too close to other dogs that she is barking at.
When I am feeling very stressed, I look at the many pictures on my work desk wall of family and instantly I feel much better. If I realize that I am eating when I am not hungry, but stressed, I will look at the pictures and hopefully put the food down and just drink some water.
