While watching television, sit on an exercise ball and perform upper body strength training and abdominal exercises. During commercial breaks do squats for the whole break, then back to weights when the show comes back on, then for the next break do lunges and continue to alternate.
Do as many burpees that you can during the commercial break of your favorite show, they get you heart rate up and are a good total body workout. Their are many variations to burpees beginners; w/o doing the push up and small jump, intermediate; with push up and high jump, advanced; push up, bring each knee to elbow then explode into the air. Go to youtube or bodyrock.tv for great examples.
I put a shelf up in front of my treadmill so that I can workout and watch TV or shows online. My strategy is I can only watch Greys Anatomy if I'm on the treamill, most of the show are 43mins commercial free on abc.com
