Having just ONE unplanned cookie, or 50 extra calories daily, can add up to 18,250 calories in a year. If those calories are not burned, they'll be stored as just over 5 lbs of fat. Knowing this little stat keeps me from taking those little bites!
Trying to be sure that I get 5-6 fruits and vegs a day! My summer days are crazy so these are my faves that I keep at home and work pre-packed and ready: Sugarfree Applesauce, Low Sodium V8 cans, 6 prunes or apricots, 1 1/2 cups green beans, 1 oz raw almonds. If I get these, then I"ve met my goal!
Pre-packing food in portions and in units of 100 calories helps me stay within the calories I need for the day. On busy days I can pack for lunch and breakfast by grabbing my "food units" - 10 items = 1000 cals - I can toss them into my lunch bag and stay within my calorie guidelines!!
When I've eaten my calories for the day I brush my teeth. I'm less likely to grab an extra snack when I have already cleaned my teeth. Bonus -- mouth is minty fresh and water is extra refreshing.
