Surround Yourself with Positive People and Actions

We cannot choose our families, but we can choose HOW we deal with our family members with positive attitude and words. If family members are negative and give you negative feedback about anything in your life--turn the negatives into a positive by either NOT responding to the negative OR by saying, "I understand how you feel" and leave it at that. Family members may not provide positive feedback, but you can be proud of all your accomplishments--small or big changes.

Always Be Proud of Yourself

No matter what has happened in the last year, month, week, day, hour, minute, or second--always be proud of yourself that you made it to "now" so you can greet the next moment & find ways to help you progress towards your goals. There is nothing you can do to change the past. Each new moment is available for you to be proud that you recognize what needs to be done. You do not have to make healthy choices every second--just be glad and proud to have that moment! Change your future in the "now!!"

Consignment and Charity Shops

Try saving money by shopping at local consignment, charity-sponsored, and "super-discount" shops for clothing, used fitness equipment, kitchenware, etc. You can earn a little $ at consignment shops if you bring "gently" used items and have the shop re-sell them. However, if you bring in a winter coat in the summer, they will probably ask you to bring it back in the fall when they will start selling their winter items. You will NOT get full price, but it is extra $ !!

Reminder to Read Labels

It helps me to actually read and understand labels. I admit that I do not always track my food but I discovered that some (maybe all) Target/Market Pantry frozen vegetables have potassium. When I looked at the same frozen veggies from other stores, they did not include potassium. I do not know if Target/Market Pantry adds potassium, but I like knowing there is potassium in my frozen veggies especially because I have a family history of high blood pressure. It is a good thing I read the labels.

Eat Half AND Add 2 more Veggie Servings

I often eat half a serving of both protein and carbs with a regular size serving of veggies AND then I add at least two or three servings of veggies for my meals only. Most of the time the veggies I add consist of salad greens without dressing. I love he taste of plain old salad greens with my meals. For snacks I eat fruit and some kind of protein. Of course, I drink a lot of water every day, too.

Want to Lose Weight? Set up a Bedtime Routine to Help you Sleep

Getting enough sleep helps to lose weight. The definition of "enough" will be different for each person and their daily schedule, whether or not the schedule includes 9-5 work routine, retirement, third shift, second shift, etc. Finding a bedtime routine is helpful because completing a routine helps your body and mind to slow down and get ready for sleep. Mine is to get in bed half an hour before I want to fall asleep, and then read a book. I am usually asleep in less than 15 minutes!

If you are regular...

then weigh yourself in the morning, AFTER you void (a "nice" word for poop). If you weigh in two to three times a week, it is motivating to weigh in BEFORE you eat breakfast and AFTER voiding. Make sure to eat breakfast no matter what the scale says, and then plan accordingly for the rest of the day's snacks and meals.

Believe and Make It Happen

It starts with believing (among other things like positive attitude, perseverance, patient, forgiving yourself and other people, etc.) to help you can meet your goals. Then, it progresses every hour of your days, by making it happen with baby steps. You can do it, and you can do it with your friends at SparkPeople!!

Just Do It, and Just Do It Every Day

In order to form healthy habits, it is important to "just do it" when it comes to exercise. As long as you can start with at least 10 minutes of cardio every single day, you will find it easier to increase both the number of minutes of exercise and the intensity of exercise. Gradually increase amount of time and intensity, and soon you will "just do it" every day without even thinking (or complaining) about it!! You CAN do it!!
