Get a dog.

There is no better motivation in my book than to see my dog's exuberance when he sees me putting my shoes on for our morning walk. Dogs need exercise, and as their steward you must walk them. Don't cheat the little fella out of his joy by just walking to the fire hydrant at the end of the block.

Recorded Books and Walking

I love to read but don't have time. Checking out recorded books from the library, I've made a deal with myself that I can only listen to the cd while I'm working out or walking. I find that I walk longer and farther, especially if the book is especially engaging.

I plan my snacks ahead of time.

Taking a few minutes to cut up raw vegetables and even put them in individual serving sizes makes healthy low-cal snacks as easy to grab and munch on as a bag of chips. Also, don't wait until you are famished to eat, a small undiet snack is better for your metabolism than starving your cells.
