I packed away all my dinner plates, large bowls, super-sized mugs and other extra large dinnerware. Instead, I kept my salad plates, small bowls and regular sized mugs out. That way, when I fill a plate, I'm filling it with much less food. And, my smaller portions look larger on the smaller plate.
I will never completely give up unhealthy treats. I enjoy the taste of things that are "bad" for me. That's why I eat "bad" snacks in moderation, limiting quantities and frequency. And, I balance that with tons of fruits and veggies! I still enjoy the "bad" foods but balance them with healthy snacks.
It's hard to stay motivated, but accomplishing one small goal makes me feel good. While a one- or two-pound loss may not seem like a big deal (I have almost 200 pounds to lose), lots of little losses add up to big results!
