Using the A to Z Health Topic Feature

I visit the A to Z health topic site on SparkPeople almost everyday. You can earn 3 sparkpoints for reading through one of the articles. I have decided that this is a very easy way to get those extra 3 points so I have started with the "A" group and plan to just work my way through the alphabet one letter at a time!!

Wear Your Running Shoes!

First thing in the morning and all throughout the day, wear your running shoes in the house. Somehow, it makes you feel like you should be getting up and moving and doing something, whether it is cleaning or exercising. Its easy to stay on the couch in your fuzzy wuzzy bunny slippers, but when you have running shoes on, it doesn't seem right to put your feet up in them!

Just do something

Even if you feel sore, are tired or don't feel up to a workout, just do something light, keep your body moving and you will stay on track! emoticon

My Secret to Healthy Eating

For me the best way to ensure I eat healthy is to always start with the fruit and veggies. If I load each meal with lost of fruits and veggies they fill me up and then I am less likely to crave things that are not good for me.

Visual Motivation!

Besides a Vision Collage, place a small jar filled with pebbles or marbles, one for each pound or half pound you have set your goal at. Take out the pebbles or marbles as you lose those pounds. Keep your jar on the kitchen counter or close to the refrigerator as a reminder to stay on track.

Burn more calories after weight training

If you are working cardio into your routine and cannot do it in the morning, do it AFTER you train with weights. Your weight training takes more energy and you want to be strong for your workout. In addition, your body becomes primed for burning calories after weight training.

Not Losing Weight ...on a Plateau?

Lower the sugar content in your foods. Eat less carbs because carbs turn into sugar once eaten. Your pancreas is constantly producing insulin to get rid of the sugar. You become insulin resistant or pre-diabetic. Sugar promotes all sorts of disease and complications in your body like depression, diabetes, heart trouble, cancer, high triglycerides and more.

V8 juice is only 30 calories.

Anytime I feel like a snack, I enjoy a cold glass of V8 juice. Its such a healthy boost. The store brands are quite good and a lot cheaper than the name brand. It really does the trick. It's low calorie, surprisingly satisfying and filling.
(don't forget to shake it everytime)

Don't weigh in every single day.

I used to do this to "keep myself in check", but it really isn't necessary. Weigh once a week or even once a month or not at all. You can just go by how your pants feel. The number on the scale really stresses me out, so it is best for me not to dwell on it too much. Lately, I can see my stomach getting smaller. I don't need to be validated by the scale.

Net Calories

This was a hard concept at first but I quickly learned that on the days I was more active I needed to replace the calories burned to refuel my body. As long as I kept my net calories within my daily goal, I continued to make progress. Eating too little can derail your weight loss almost as much as eating too much.
