I love having whole grain crackers with cheese at work for lunch, but I can't be trusted to have a box of crackers in my house without eating the whole thing one night. So I stopped buying crackers and now use pears or apples instead. I bring a paring knife with me to work and smear the cheese right on the fruit pieces. Delicious, and it cuts way down on my temptation to binge on carbs.
If you already wear a badge on a lanyard at work, why not add a pedometer? I wear a cute handmade lanyard from Etsy with my badge and an Omron HJ-203 ($20 @ Amazon) "pocket" pedometer. I like not having to connect to my waist, and my dress shoes lack shoelaces, so the lanyard is the way to go. Plus it's cute, and it has a handy clock to boot!
It's so comforting in the evening to have a treat while sitting on the couch and watching TV, but that's part of how I gained weight in the first place. Now, instead of chocolate cake or ice cream, I make myself a mug of Maxwell House International Cafe Suisse Moche (sugar free & decaf). It's only 30 calories! I've saved hundreds of calories doing this.
I usually look at the nutritional info for a restaurant if I know I'm going later, but sometimes I'm surprised by an invitation to dine out. When calorie information is not easily found out, go for the soup! It works every time. In Mexican restaurants, try tortilla soup. In Chinese, try wonton. I always come out way ahead by sticking to soup!
