I have a theory that seems to be true for me. I can eat almost anything I want but I have to track everything I eat. The theory is: " the only calories that turn into unwanted fat are the calories I didn't track!"
If you have reached a plateau in your weight loss, try smarter not harder. Most us make the mistake of trying harder (eating less, exercising more) when we should be trying smarter (find the root cause of the plateau), Did our metabolism slow down? Are we really eating what we think we are? Are we in a food or exercise rut?
