This is completely counter-intuitive, but I'm saving a ton of money by having our groceries delivered by Peapod instead of going to the store. The prices are similar, most sales are the same, and I can still use coupons. But by virtue of me staying out of the store -- zero impulse buying! -- I'm forced to stick to the list. My grocery bill has dropped about 25%.
Every week I go shopping, instead of looking at the ad and trying to match-up all my coupons with items on sale, I use coupon match-up sites. I am a member of probably 10 of them or so but I only subscribe to commonsensewithmoney.com . I get a daily e-mail that has a bunch of great deals and sometimes free things.
Every time we see something of larger monetary value (for my house anything over $20 that's a want) then, we take a pic or a note in our smart phone of that stores price, etc. When I get home I research when I think of it or as I look at ads etc. Generally, I put off even researching it and when we finally remember it we either realize we didn't need or want it, bought it but saved money, or otherwise. It really helps curb impulse purchases.
No, you did not "give up" junk food, you made a decision to eliminate unhealthy food from your diet. The difference is subtle, but important.
Make a paper clip chain, each paper clip representing a pound lost, use a magnet to attach it to your fridge at home or filing cabinet at work. This gives you a visual and tactile reminder of how much weight you've lost, plus it's fun to keep adding those paper clips on to last weeks chain!
My grandson is a picky eater, so I asked him if he liked pumpkin pie and he said yes. I scrub sweet potatoes, prick them all over then cook in the microwave. Usually a little bigger than fist size for 8 mins or until it's soft to the squeeze. Cut in half and share with dh. Pince the skin off, add a little light margarine and a generous sprinkle of cinnamon. Wa lah! Pumpkin pie flavor with no sugar calories. DGs loved it, btw!
On those days when I honestly don't feel like exercising, I motivate myself by pulling a reward card out of the special gift bag AFTER I have done my exercising. It keeps me going and I know there are some neat little things I can treat myself to.
The other day I was in the library (I go there a lot for books, movies, and free WiFi), and I realized--Hey, they have workout DVDs I can check out for free here! So, I checked out "Bollywood Burn" and went home and tried it. It was fun and free! I know I'm not the only one who craves variety, and utilizing your local library is a great way to keep your workout fresh and exciting for free! I can't wait to try more!
I enjoy talking on the phone especially because now that I am out of college a lot of my friends live far away. When my friends and I chat we can talk for an hour or even longer. Instead of chatting to them while laying on my bed, whenever someone calls for a talk I take my phone with me and go for a walk. I tend to walk at a faster pace when I'm talking too, yet I barely remember I'm exercising because I'm so interested in the conversation!
