3 pieces fruit for breakfast
When I was in college, I went to the personal counseling office because I was feeling really overwhelmed, and my counselor told me something about procrastination that will always stick with me: "Don't wait until you "feel like" doing something, because chances are good you'll never "feel like" doing it."
Your subconscious doesn't recognize negatives.. so if you say "I will not think about chocolate" you automatically think about chocolate. So speak in positives, like "I prefer healthy snacks like yogurt and fruit" to keep your self-talk constructive.
When I went to my first Zumba class, I felt so un-coordinated and sore afterwards. My instructor even suggested it wasn't for me. Three months later, I easily keep up with the routines and can see the pounds AND inches melting off! When you find an exercise you love, STICK WITH IT -- it'll get easier and easier each time you do it and you'll notice a big change both physically (weight loss) and mentally (improved mood, more self-confidence).
I can't seem to get myself motivated enough to do serious exercise as soon as I wake up in the a.m., but I've discovered that I can do my 10 Minute Trainer yoga dvd in my pj's! I put the dvd in before I go to sleep at night so all I have to do is jump up and get to it! It's only 10 minutes but it gives me SO much energy AND influences my eating habits all day.
When I lost 70 pounds I knew I needed something to get me excited about exercising everyday. Each night, before bed, I compiled a playlist of my favorite songs for my workout the next morning. This literally, was what kept me going through my weight loss journey! Music can elevate your mood in an instant and make this process a lot easier!
When I got home for the summer I immediately lost 5lbs because I wasn't surrounded by cafeteria food and lack of activity. Regularly going to the gym helped me drop another 5lbs. Then I plateaued for a few weeks. I found that really pushing myself to a range of burning 500-700 calories EVERY TIME I worked out would increase my overall weekly calorie burn output. Since I try to work out 5x/wk I now burn approx 3500 Cal/wk. according to Healthstatus.com that is a standard amount/rule of thumb.
I have been on the SP site a grand total of 3 weeks even though I "joined" in January of 2010 and it's now December! The more I've explored and interacted, the more I've received back from the other members here. The key is logging in every day and interacting. You DO feel a part of things here that way.........and you DO get the support you need in your weight loss journey. Good luck!
