Go Public

Perhaps one of the most uncomfortable parts of my journey was going public, but sharing my journey with others has been a linchpin in my success. Sharing ups and downs with Spark friends and family has been important for keeping me on track and motivated to succeed.

Set Realistic Goals

One key to my success is setting realistic goals. On the first of each month, I set 5-6 goals I work to achieve during the month, as well as a few long-term goals. I also revisit the goals from the prior month to reflect on my progress. Writing down my goals in this way gives me a target to aim for each day and keeps me on track.

Shop While You Drop and Support a Charity

I like to dress for the body I have, not the body I had. So it's important to be able to buy new clothes as I change sizes. But that can also be really expensive.

My solution is to shop at resale stores. My favorite spot is a Christian non-profit organization that raises money from selling donated items to be able to offer social services in my community. I get incredible bargains on quality, used clothing in my size while also supporting this awesome organization.

Focus on what you are adding, not what you are taking away

Focusing on the healthy lifestyle choices I am adding, such as drinking lots of water, eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and getting daily exercise, helps keep me much more motivated than focusing on what I am taking away. My lifestyle is then not about deprivation but about making good choices for a healthier me.

Exercise is Key

My daily exercise routine is definitely a key to my success. Although it's certainly possible to lose weight by "dieting" alone, it is my daily morning walk that is going to give me a nice booty when I reach my goal.

Simple Storage for Leftovers

I always cook extra portions and store leftovers in Hefty One-Zip storage bags. They take up very little room in the refrigerator and can be rinsed and reused or tossed after use.
