Establish a reward cycle when you start to exercise by showering with an extravagant shower gel that you ONLY use after exercise. I did this when starting out and I still love to stand in the shower basking in the wonderful aroma, exercise endorphins, and the feeling of virtue and nurturing from taking care of myself by exercise.
I started exercising after work, but sometimes I would wonder if I had anything left to exercise with. My solution for tiredness and blahs is to eat a snack before I leave work for the exercise session. I try to have it between 3.30 and 4, but sometimes it is later.
Plan to succeed by putting exercise on your weekly schedule. Then make it the highest priority item for that day. Do not accept other invitations for that time unless you can reschedule your fitness activity for a time that you know you will committ to.
Self talk & how you think about your weight loss journey makes a huge difference to your success. I have reframed how I do this to help me feel focussed & positive. I'm 70+ lbs down, & I didn't LOSE that weight! I ddn't mislay it & I don't plan to pick it up again later. I RELEASED it, & it's gone, outa here. It hasn't got resident's rights, & it's not hanging around waiting to climb back on board!
I bought a grab and go neoprene lunch taker to take to work. It keeps foods cool for four hours. I pack my lunch the night before and put the whole thing in the fridge. Now I do this even on days when I am not working, it encourages me to stick with my eating plan. Best of all, it keeps me out of the fridge and away from temptation.
After daily weighing for a while, I've really noticed that I lose weight after a good night's sleep. So to avoid night time eating, DH & I go to bed earlier. We say, "Off to lose some weight" as we go to bed. I used to hate going to bed, now I am happy to take myself off.
When I started sparking, I got most of my points by doing this. It's true that you don't get fitter by sitting around reading. But after getting 25 points a day doing this day after day, guess what? I branched out and started logging my exercise. Now I get my points mostly from tracking my exercise and water. I started because I was ready to, and now that's how I want to get my points.
Sometimes I don't feel like exercising so I say to myself, well I'll just put on my workout gear and see how I feel then. Then I say, I'll walk down to the car and see how I feel. Then I say, I'll just drive to my class and see how I feel. Guess what, once I've got that far, I feel like I might as well put in that workout!
SparkPeople recommends eating more slowly, and I've been making an effort to chew more thoroughly. To remind myself to do this, I made a little card saying, "Slow down". I attached it to a place card holder that I keep with my condiments.
Going for 25 Spark points each day helps me stay positive and focussed. I feel good when I get that bonus, no matter how many points it is. Chasing points has led me to parts of SP that I wouldn't have found otherwise. Plus I participate in ways I wouldn't have thought I would enjoy.
