WARM UP and COOL DOWN

Even when I am rushed for time I always try to do a warm up prior to exercise and a cool down after. I used to think they were optional but now I realize the importance of preparing the body for exercise, physically and psychologically, and returning it to normal after and the sessions go much better when I follow those guidelines. It also makes stretching at the end easier.

Sneaking in extra steps at work

I work as a sales clerk in a store , and to sneak in some extra steps while at work ,I have moved the behind- the- counter trash can further away from where it used to be .This makes me take two extra steps to get to it after each transaction, as our customers usually never want their reciept and it gets thrown away .This has been adding an average of 150 extra steps to my daily count.Extra steps add up !Keep moving any way you can ! emoticon

Eat with the "wrong" hand

I found this somewhere but it works. By "wrong" I mean the less dominant hand. If you use the fork in that hand its slower.

Tricky cheating..

When I get a craving for something sweet, I use my 17 month old daughters utensils..lol. For example, if I want some ice cream or pudding I use my daughters small cups and tiny little spoons as they hold much smaller portions so it tricks me to thinking I ate so much more and it lasts longer.

Get Em On Board

In emergency department (where I work) --I have successfully "spread the spark" to everyone who will listen and they are signing on and we are holding each other accountable. The "BAD" foods are lessening and folks are bringing better choices for the break room. emoticon

Frozen Yogurt with Fruit

Non-Fat Vanilla Frozen Yogurt topped with fresh fruit satisfies the sweet craving yet allows you to get your dairy (without the guilt) and plenty of fruit servings. Favorite fruit toppings for me are raspberries, strawberries, bananas, and pineapple. Use more than one at a time and have fun with it. Great for a light dinner at the end of the day. emoticon emoticon

Water Warz

My co-workers & I track our water during the day. I made a graph to show who is ahead of the game. This is a huge help especially on days were you just don't feel like drinking water. No one wants to be a looser so they will drink more to try and be the first to reach their 8 a day goal.

Figure out what you are hungry for - it might not be food

Hunger isn't necessarily for food!

When I am tired, I am hungry for sleep.
When I am thirsty, I am hungry for liquids.
When I am feeling down, I'm hungry for support.
When I am feeling lonely, I'm hungry for people.

Don't eat food when you need friends, or fluids, or sleep!!! Recognize what your hunger actually is for, and satisfy it with what it is craving.

Ice cream rarely gives you extra sleep, quenches your thirst, or gives you a hug!

Did You Know

An apple, onion, and potato all have the same taste. The differences in flavor are caused by their smell. To prove this you can pinch your nose and take a bite from each. They will all taste sweet.
