Smaller Plates = Smaller Portions

I know it's been said before, but eating off of smaller plates really does help. We have the "normal" 12" dinner plates and smaller lunch plates. When I eat meals on the smaller, filled up lunch plates, I feel more satisfied with smaller portions than with the larger, dinner plates.

Put your goals where you can see them

One reason I want to lose weight is to resume mountaineering. So I bought a magnetic picture of Mount Rainier and put it on the frig where I see it everyday. I also put a picture of a runner with the type of body I hope to have on the inside of my gym locker. Both motivate me on a daily basis.

I am eating this because...

If you had to complete that sentence and say it out loud before each time you ate:
Would you eat as often?
Would you eat the same foods? the same quantities?

I am eating this because: I am truly hungry AND it is healthy fuel for my body."

I am trying this myself, to eat only when I can say that sentence out loud. Otherwise, I need to reconsider my choices, or why I am reaching for food at all. Boredom? Stress? ...

Ten Minute Break at Work

Try to see how many exercises you can do for a specific body part in ten minutes and track under other exercises. This allows you to keep track of the ones you have done so that you do not get bored or work the same group of muscles two days in a row

Tuna without Mayo

I never thought I would eat tuna without mayo, but I had it the other day, it was amazing. Tuna on a baguette, with cherry tomatoes and muesclin lettuce. Amazing and a great way to cut back on fat and calories.

putting dishes away

To save time putting dishes away after they have been washed in the dishwasher, I take the dishes out according to their size,stack them together then put them up in the cupboards. First I start with the largest size dish then do the next largest size down to the saucers. Then work on the soup bowls and their sizes and then the cups. I find this systems makes easy work for putting dishes away.

Water Water Water

I have a new bottle that holds 4 cups of water. I fill it up twice a day, and when I have drunk it twice through, I know that I have had my eight cups. I carry it with me every where.

Sneak more water into my day

I have a hard time drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Finally I started filling soda bottles with water and sipping on them off and on. I stopped worrying about how much I was drinking & it took the pressure off!

My favorite breakfast

3/4 cup egg beaters, 1/2 cup tiny broccoli florets and chopped tomatoes, 2 T parmesan cheese and 2 T salsa (on the side). Less than 150 calories!
