My 11 year old daughter no longer likes the clothes I pick out for her, but I cannot justify spending so much money on designer jeans, etc. Now, I give her a budget of $20 - $30 and we go to Goodwill. I get veto approval, but she finds the clothes she wants. She likes it because she can get more for her money. I like it because she is hard to fit, no longer fits in girls, not quite in Misses, so I am not investing in clothes she won't fit in for very long.
Today I offered my three children to buy their Halloween candy for $1 a pound. I know I don't want it in the house and they don't need the calories or cavities either. All three of them took me up on my offer. I am going to give the candy to a friend whose son is stationed in Iraq, and she will send it to his unit to share. The soldiers get a much needed treat, my kids profit, and we are all living healthy.
Halloween candy is a tradition that can go way out of hand. I do provide candy for the trick oir treaters BUT I always make sure to buy candy that I really don't like. That way it can be in my house the week before Halloween and I am not tempted in the slightest to have any.
