When I asked a young woman who had lost 200 pounds how she did it, she said that she treated weight loss like a job. No matter how she felt, she showed up. She showed up at the grocery store to buy the right food, she showed up to track her food, she showed up to walk, etc.
Finding something you love to do, it may be taking a walk, playing basketball or using Xbox kinect or the Wii game systems. If you are up moving a sweating you are getting a workout. If you love what you are doing you are way more likely to keep doing it.
Not a BIG fan of strength training? Neither was I, until one day I looked in the mirror and realized just how toned I was becoming. Not sure where to start? Sparkpeople really has some great ST demonstrations in their fitness section to help you out. Don't have equipment? I didn't at first either. Sparkpeople has ST demos where no equipment is needed. Cardio helps you lose weight, but ST helps to get you toned! So get out there and show your muscles who's boss!
I have been able to make exercise a regular habit (5-7 times a week) for the past 2 years. The biggest motivator for me was finding someone to workout with that had similar goals. Once we got started, we trained for 4 half marathons and 3 triathlons together!
This tip is not about weight loss, it is about the affect that food has on an individual. I use to deal with puffiness around the eyes, eczema, swollen joints and other random things at random times of the year. So I experimented with my diet and by cutting out dairy for one week and then reintroducing it, I found out that dairy makes my eyes puffy. What else? Oranges, I found out they give me canker sores! There are others but I suggest you try this secret you never know what you might discover!
You are on this journey, and most likely, having tough times every now and again. But when you smile, laugh, look over your shoulder at someone, ... you are BEAUTIFUL! Next time you look in the mirror, look at those beautiful eyes of yours and know that you are something special!
Never deprive yourself of your favorite foodsójust find ways to healthify them! If you love burgers, try a flavorful turkey burger recipe. If pizza is your food of choice, try whole wheat crust, or a pita. Love Mexican food? Use ground turkey breast, chicken and reduced fat cheese. Get Creative!
