Exercise and Caffeine

New study shows that you should not drink coffee before exercise. The caffeine inhibits blood flow to your heart. Be heart smart and drink your coffee later or wait to exercise several hours after you have your cup of joe!

Find a local SPARK FRIEND!

Find a local Spark friend. It helps so much to have a real, live person you can call up to go for a walk with, or a run, who can tell you where to find the best organic beets (or whatever), who understands the weather you are dealing with, and who lives close enough to see often. It really helps!

Tracking Is The Most Important

The one and only way, that I can lose weight is by tracking what I eat. This is a great site to do that! When I'm determined enough, I know that this is the way to get it done. emoticon

Chew gum

I just started chewing gum and it really works to keep my mouth busy and away from grabbing something to eat.

Set multiple mini goals to reach your final goal

I have a desire to loose over 150 pounds to reach my ideal weight. However, this goal or wish is very overwhelming to me. Therefore I have set a smaller goal of loosing 10 pounds at a time to focus upon (rather than focusing on the 150+ pounds that I need to loose). This smaller goal is helping me reach my larger goal so far I see that I can reach my 10 pound goal and move on to the next 10 pounds and the next. Ultimately I see the positive not the impossible/overwhelming.

How to Drink Water in the Winter

In the winter, I hate drinking cold water from the tap when it's already chilly in the house and outside. So, after I drink my first glass of water in the morning, I immediately fill up the glass again and set it aside for later. When I'm ready to drink it, the water has warmed up and goes down much easier. Drink and repeat 8 times! In the summer, ice cold water is best, of course. It's refreshing and it burns calories to warm up the water in your tummy.

Serenity Circle Rewards

Each time I meet a fitness goal I add a serenity circle to a necklace and wear it for inspiration... ie my first 5k "courage" etc.

* they are a nice gift/stocking stuffer too; my family and I keep those on our key chains.

Monitor Sodium in your Nutrition Tracker

If you aren't losing weight and your calories and exercise are on target, sodium might be the culprit. Track your daily sodium to make better choices, and you'll start losing again.

keeping gum in my kitchen

Ive started keeping my favorite gum on the counter of my kitchen. That way whenI have a sweet tooth, or just grazing through, I grab a piece and walk out. It works pretty well, and even if I spit it out 15 minutes later, by then the craving has passed. emoticon
