I've found sharing what I am up to helps keep me going. Joining the community features of Spark People was a change in the way I live. I was regularly up and down like a yo yo but with regular connection with Spark Friends I've become less moody and closer with everyone in my life! Try it, you'll benefit!
At any point in your program it is easy to get caught up in the habits you've built up. Always consider what a relevant and doable action step is that will move you toward your goal and then start it. You will find that little steps bring little successes and that's how you build to the bigger results!
Some guidelines for grocery shopping - You've heard the line, "Stay on the perimeters of the grocery store", no? This helps you stay away from the snack, sugary drinks and processed foods! I take this one further and only go into an aisle if I need something there. No impulse shopping in an aisle! Also, if you haven't eaten recently, consider having a healthy snack including something protein before you shop. This actually will save you time and money in the long run.
I often find I really don't want to get out there and exercise. Well, I found a trick that works like a dream. I allow myself to not want to and just get ready to go. Then if I still don't want to walk or run after my first lap or first stage of what I'm doing I allow myself to change it up or quit altogether. I've only changed my exercise once so I think this helps get me up and out!
Everytime I say, I Can't, I disempower and give myself a way not to go for it. The issue is not whether I can or can't, the issue is, "AM I WILLING"? I always have a choice between "I can" and "I can't". Both are equally habit forming.
Agave syrup is a sweetener that has a limited effect on blood sugar levels. This is a boon since other sweeteners affect my mood, digestion and desire for more. I can use less since it is sweeter than sugar and I know I am using a natural product. Substitute in any recipe for sugar!
Anytime I feel myself starting to lag or slide into unhealthy behaviors, I log on to SP. Being connected to others tackling the same challenges brings me back to my commitment . Then I can keep the steps I need to take in front of me instead of these seemingly insurmountable goals.
