I waited 42 years to get my Aussie Labradoodle. He, in my humble opinion, is the perfect dog. Loving, clever, non-shedding...I could go on, and on, and on. Mainly, he is my therapy dog. He is healing me from 35 years of a very stressful, high tech /analytical existence. I thank God, I found him/he found me.
Back in June this year (2013) I made the decision to walk every day. Little did I know the benefits that would follow. I began with 15 minutes, and now sometimes walk for more than 4 miles. Little by little with the help of Spark and a walking team I have extended my distance. Friends are commenting on how well and fit I look - even though I'm not yet at my goal weight. Get walking. Get looking at your surroundings - and you will blossom too.
Every morning on the way to work I stop at McDonald's and purchase a Large (32 oz.) UNsweet tea; it only costs me $1.08. After I finish my tea (I commute 50 miles one way) I refill that same 32 oz. cup with water a minimum of 2 times per day. On average, I drink over 100 oz. of water a day that way.
I have never been very good at consistency. My biggest problem trying to lose weight! But I recently started a countdown challenge. 100 days. For some reason counting down from 100 has been easier than counting up! Today is day 67 so I have done 21 days in a row of logging my food, blogging and exercising 10 minutes. In 2.5 years this is the best I have done in SP. I'm grateful to my spark buddy who suggested it! We are in this together!
Find the things that bring you joy and make it your job to do at least one a day. Happiness is the greatest weight loss aid there is! When you are happy you tend to stay motivated to do whatever you wish to accomplish!
I have a body bugg to keep track of calories burned. I found when I do mini sparks of marching in place for 1000 steps at a time or longer that my calorie burn stays elevated higher through out the day. I try to do 1000 per hour. Sitting I was burning 1.5 cal. per min. Marching in place makes it go up to 3.5 cal per min on average. Just get up and do it. It makes it easy to reach 10,000 steps in a day if you break it down !!!
I try to get 8 5-minute walks in during my work day. I have 8 of those chunky magnets that you slap on your overhead metal cabinets. At the start of the day they're all on one cabinet door. As I complete a 5 minute walk I move them to the other door. Hopefully, by the end of the day they're all moved, and I got 40 minutes and two miles of walking done!
For my husband and me, our favorite "date night" is to pack a picnic of turkey and ham sub sandwiches and fresh fruit. We walk down to the beach a mile away and watch the sunset into the Gulf of Mexico while we talk about our lives. It's so romantic and basically FREE.
I love Greek yogurt but can't get used to eating the plain variety. Recently while in the Amish Country in Pennsylvania I bought something called pumpkin butter (it doesn't contain butter -- it's more like a pumpkin pie filling) I add a tablespoon of this to my plain Greek yogurt and it's delicious. And the calorie count is no higher than if I were to eat the vanilla flavor. Sometimes I add a sprinkle of cinnamon.
I have found that pam and those other aerosol cooking sprays has butane in them! So instead I went to my kitchen store and brought a sprayer that you have to pump, put your olive oil or other favorite oils in there, pump then spray... much cleaner for your body and lets get away from those chemicals!
