When the obstacles you face seem insurmountable remember that if you lose a small battle you're still winning the war! Every day we face choices that affect our personal journey through life, as long as most of your choices are positive, healthy, life-affirming ones you are making progress whether it seems like it or not. At times we feel like our goals are a lifetime away... They are. Weight loss and health are a day at a time transformation of your life so don't worry about the finish line!
During the spring and summer months you can save a lot of money on salads by growing your own lettuce! No need to feel intimidated by the project because you can buy starter lettuce beds from a nursery (usually only a few dollars) and plant them at home in your garden or a large planter. I live in an apartment with a small patio and I have plenty of room for my greens! If you harvest carefully they'll keep you in salads for months!
There are some parts of healthy meals that take much longer to cook than the rest and reheat well. For faster meals when you don't have much time you can pre-cook things like brown rice, wholewheat pasta, or dried beans and store them in the fridge in appropriate portions. If you do this on Sunday you have your staple items that take the longest to cook ready for the week so all you have to do is saute some veggies and lean protein to add to it!
If you have a hard time saying no to samples in grocery stores chewing some sugar-free gum while you're in the store helps. If you're going to try something you have to get rid of your gum and that gives you that momentary pause to think about what you were going to put in your mouth.
I often find myself putting off my exercise until later and later with little excuses (My food needs to settle, I'm too hungry now that I waited I need to eat again, I don't have time to exercise and then shower before I need to go etc) Before I know it I'm out of time. Doing something small I know I can get done early in the day ensures I'll have done something which is always better than nothing, hopefully I'll add more later but if not at least I didn't skip out on the whole day!
Sometimes I find myself wanting to snack, not because I'm particularly hungry, so instead I do 20 jumping jacks. Usually I've distracted myself enough for the urge to pass but if I eventually give in at least I've burned some of those calories in advance!
