I don't regularly buy a lot of junk food, but I do have a weakness for sodas, candy bars, and chips. Every time I resist the urge to buy something like this, I take the money I would have spent (including sales tax) and put it into an account to buy something I really want (like new gym shoes or a cute blouse). The other day, I resisted the urge to order a pizza and now have $12 more in my account (and after about an hour, I found that I didn't really want the pizza anyway).
After the box of baking soda in your fridge or freezer no longer keeps your fridge fresh, you can dump it into your bath tub (I sprinkle a bit into the sink, too), add a bit of water to make a paste and use it as a slightly abrasive scrub for cleaning. Just be sure to rinse well.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to 4 cups of water in a small pot. Stir to mix. Set pot to simmer for at least 30 minutes. The baking soda will absorb odors in your home and the simmering water will add a bit of moisture to the air. For a nice fragrance, you can add a few drops of essential oil or liquid potpourri. A small slow cooker works well for this, but a small pot on the stove is just fine.
