Don't cut out salt!

Cutting out salt will actually increase your chance of heart disease and fat retention and slower metabolism, among other things. I used to do no salt than did some research and now eat a lot of salt. (see additional note for women)

Check out what this microbiologist has to say: http://raypeat.com/articles/

Cleaning Stove Drip Pans

Fill sink (or bucket) with very hot water, add around a 1/2 cup of dishwashing soap. Soak drip pans for a half hour or so then clean as usual. Mine were black from previous renters, and now they are shiny and clean. I used an sos pad after, minimally, to remove the toughest stains but everything else just wiped right off. Very little elbow grease required.

Care for your cutting board to make it last

When you buy a new cutting board it needs to be oiled every day for a week then every week for a month then every month there after depending on how much you use it. I use mineral oil that is purposely made for wood but any mineral oil will do. This will keep the health of the board for years to come.

Salt has sugar added to it!

Yes, if you read the label, it has added dextrose (sugar) in it. It may be a little bit but sugar is sugar. Reading labels is imperative these days no matter where you shop. Even some of the sea salts have this too so take care.

I found that pickling and canning salt is "just salt" and is less than $2/box. I think it is also kosher (thanks to the commenters tip).

Happy shopping!

Eliminate wooden cutting board odors

Salt! After chopping onions, garlic or whatever, just rub salt into the cutting board and rinse. It will eliminate all odors and leave your cutting board fresh for the next meal.

Calorie Burner

You burn many more calories walking/running in inclement weather then on nice sunny days because it takes more energy to keep your core warm so don't let rain, snow or cold mornings deter you. Think of all the more calories you will be burning!
