Steel Yourself

Spark reported "clench your muscles for willpower" and this goes along with the old idea to steel yourself to face a situation.
Now a study is reported that this is so...clench your muscle for will power in a specific situation.

Trouble Drinking Water?

I like to put a little bit of orange juice in my water. Not enough to be too sweet, but just enough flavor it.

Kitchen Tip

Store some clothespins and different size elastics in a top kitchen drawer...choose whatever works best for closing bread bags, chips, crackers, cereal, salad bags, freezer boxes. Keeps everything fresh and tidy. emoticon

Share your Journey

Have an accountability partner. I have a friend that I text every morning when I finish my workout and so does she. We can't work out together but knowing that the other worked out gives us the motivation to do it ourselves. emoticon

Is your tank empty?

So often we spend much of our time and energy doing for others. We need to remember to always take time for ourselves. If we don't, we'll run out of gas. It doesn't have to be hours. A soak in the tub or a short walk often gives us time to refuel our own tanks! emoticon

Pinto Beans: Good eats

I live in SW Colorado and one town, Dove Creek, is the Pinto Bean Capitol of the World. Cook with carrots to reduce the "bad effects of beans." You can use for veggie taco salads; poured over a whole wheat tortilla with low fat cheese and lettuce; or serve as a side dish, etc. Cook for two hours with garlic, onions, cumin, red pepper flakes, etc. Serve with rice for a complete protein. emoticon

Easy way to get extra fiber and another veggie serving

I always add 2.5 ounces of fresh spinach per serving to the boiling water the last minute of cooking my pasta. Adds another extra serving of veggies, gives you tons of fiber , and all of the other good stuff that spinach has. Best of all you can't really tell its there or taste it! My kids eat it up!

FROZEN FRUIT PIECES

i have been cutting up peaches and bananas into bite size chunks and freezing them on a cookie tray so they stay individual, also grapes and cherries. When put into plastic containers or small ziplock bags they stay apart allowing you to take out however many pieces of a fruit you want... to snack on (allows for easy tracking), for quick access and is great for smoothies and when blended with a little cottage cheese or yogourt, tastes just like icecream/sherbet.

almonds

When I have hit a plateau I found that adding a good fat like almonds to my diet helped. For me it might be because I keep a very low fat diet.
