Cut out store ads to ensure you get the right price.

Just because an item is on sale in the ad doesn't mean the store has the correct sale price in their computer system. When checkout clerks are instructed to be as fast as possible it is easy to miss if you've been charged the wrong price. When you are buying a sale item from an ad, cut the ad info out and bring it with to prove to the clerk if it rings up wrong. Even if only 1 item in 100 is wrong, it still might cost you significantly.

Clean your dryer lint trap with a used fabric softener sheet.

After drying your laundry, you should always empty the lint trap. Yet when you do, it tends to fly everywhere. Take a used fabric softener sheet out of the laundry and use that to collect the lint. The anti-static properties will keep it from flying everywhere and the fibers help grab all of it in one swipe.

Freshen your disposal by eating an orange!

If your garbage disposal is smelling a bit foul, turn on the water, start the disposal, and toss in orange peels one at a time. Larger peels will spin around a few times as they're chopped, helping to remove pieces stuck in there, and the smell will be replaced by the strong smell of fresh orange. When the peels are gone, keep running the disposal and the water for another minute to make sure it's all rinsed.

Replace hamburger with lean ground chicken

I like hamburger helper on occasion for an easy meal, but I found when I was browning the meat there was so much grease, no matter what percentage mix. When I heard about the new ground chicken I gave that a try - and I like it so much more. There is little or no grease, takes less time to cook (turn it white not brown), it's easier to break into small chunks, and I think it tastes great. Measure out a 1 cup serving, steam some veggies to mix in, and my meal is done!

Bake something to warm your chilly home

If your house is chilly on a cool spring or summer morning/day, instead of turning on the heat for a half hour or hour, bake or cook something to warm up the house. Use that day to cook large meals for freezing or bake that healthier recipe you've been wanting to try. Multi-tasking at its best - warm up a chilly house, get some cooking done without cranking up the a/c, and if it is cool outside, once the house warms up, open the windows to air out the house!

Drink all your water - but not all at once.

Drinking a lot of water (4+ cups) within a short period of time (~30-60 mins) will prevent your body from using it properly. It is MUCH better to spread your water intake over the whole day. This allows your kidneys to use it properly, instead of releasing unprocessed water and dehydrating you. If you drink throughout the day while eating, you replenish both sodium and water in your kidneys to keep them functioning properly.

It is easy to always keep your drip pans clean - with aluminum foil!

Line your drip pans with aluminum foil to keep them clean. (Make sure to open up the hole in the right rear pan for the exhaust from the oven.) If a pot overflows, wait until it has cooled for several hours then just replace the foil. Much easier than replacing the entire drip pan! Great idea for dorm kitchens, apartments, shared living spaces, etc.

witch hazel

Witch hazel is an astringent. If you apply it to your face with a cotton ball, it removes excess oils - great to use before putting on makeup or at the end of the day. It also holds moisture in the skin, so it can be used to combat dry, cracked hands; after washing your hands rub on some witch hazel and let dry. In a few days you may see improvement.
