Savor the sweet, eat less doing so

When I get a sweets craving I usually do this: I turn off everything that distracts, sit down comfy, and start to enjoy what I craved. Then as soon as I notice i'm not savoring each bite, just eating I stop. My craving is then satisfied and I don't need the whole thing.

Ways To Get In Your 8 Cups Of Water Daily

I make it a daily routine to drink one cup of water before and one cup after each meal(including snacks). Most days I have 3 main meals and 2 snacks therefore I have no problem getting in 8 cups of water per day. I average 10 to 12 cups per day.

An analogy with knitting

I am knitting a Great American Aran Afghan and each square is a small victory on the way to the finished blanket. I look at weight loss in a similar way. Each kg is a square. Even if I make mistakes and have to rip the knitting back that's ok cos I can knit it back up later. Same for weight loss.

Earn the snack!

Sometimes when I want a snack and it's not fitting in my meal plan I just "earn it" - 60 minute brisk walk and I can eat that portion of ice cream without feeling guilty. :D With a condition - that walk wasn't a part of my daily fitness minutes and I won't do this every day. ;)

CRAVING SWEETS RIGHT AFTER WORK

Lately when I get off work in the afternoon I would go home and eat chocolate, cookies or have an ice cream cone. I have started packing an extra apple to eat on the way home. I find that this is helping me to stay away from the sweets after work.

Controlled Snacking

I measure my snacks such as almonds or dried fruit into small serving dishes instead of a napkin or paper towel so that they are more appealing. I have a bunch of small, beautiful dishes acquired from Asian markets and this gives me a chance to enjoy them AND the snacks.

"Not so Sweet"

It is very important to limit sugar in one's diet if weight loss is desired -- especially hidden added sugars in processed foods: cereal, yogurt, even certain bread. Stick to natural sugars that come in fresh fruit.

Mixed Drink - Teas

If I am at a restaurant and craving soda, instead of giving in, I mix 1/2-3/4 unsweetened and 1/2-1/4 sweetened tea. I got my caffeine and satisfied that sweet craving for sugar.
