I used to have the mind set: if I had say 3 Oreo cookies while I was trying to lose weight, I would be destroying every bit of work I have put into my workout.
Make sure you always put your self first, without that you will have nothing! You must take care of yourself in order to take care of others. If you are a parent, you need to be healthy to take care of your child. Imagine where that child would be without you! So remember to take care of yourself now!
I have an hour and a half commute four days a week. I used to chain smoke during my drive time. Ten years ago I quit smoking...and turned to snacking during my commute. Bad idea. I now have a rule of "no eating in my car". Instead of eating, I now sip water all the way to work. So I say my car runs on WATER. The only negative is when I get to work, I have to empty MY tank immediately.
To keep with my healthy program, I had to concede that this was a lifestyle change I've had to put away the four letter word, diet. It's not a diet-it's permanent. It's about me making good choices so that I'll live a healthier life and hopefully be around to see my grandchildren grow up. Part I: watch what I eat; stop eating junk! Part II: Exercise at least 5 days a week. Part III: If I have a setback, don't sweat it; get up dust off my pants and get back on the horse!
Oatmeal may reduce "bad" cholesterol, is a good source of protein, can keep you full longer and it's inexpensive! Add milk instead of water for that extra protein, add your protein shake, add some blueberries and last but not least, it's inexpensive! Your heart and body will love you for it.
I find it easier to get in my 8 cups of water if I drink a glass first thing in the morning, when I wake up. I keep a pint glass in my bathroom, and fill it up and down it. My mouth is so dry in the morning, it motivates me to drink the whole 16 oz glass....thats 2 cups of water right off the bat.
Don't waste the 2 minutes you spend brushing your teeth! Stand on tippy toe and do calf raises, or clench those stomach muscles... Muscles are just being lazy if you're just brushing your teeth! In case you keep forgetting (like I do) a dry erase marker can write your reminder on the bathroom mirror
