If I feel anxious and overwhelmed, especially at night, I find that making a list helps get everything out of my head and I know I don't have to think about the stuff on the list anymore because it's written down and it will be there later when I look at it.

I know I try to multi-task too often, so this is a reminder to me (and maybe for some of you) to do one small thing at a time when it comes to wellness and healthy choices. It's easy to get in the "overwhelmed and out-of-control" mood when there is too much going on. Feeling like this and wanting to hide under the covers? I have been there. One thing that I learned and is helpful is to do the opposite of what the depression wants me to do. Example; rather than stay in bed...Get up and shower. Don't want to eat? Eat a small snack. Don't want to exercise? Walk for 5 minutes. Don't want to socialize, call a friend. Taking little baby steps will help you to get out of the funk!
Chew a piece of sugarless gum right after a meal....particularly if you WANT more food. 10 minutes later, your mouth thinks it ate the food, your stomach caught up with the food you DID eat so you are full, and your teeth get a brisk cleaning.
Lost the "all or nothing" mentality. If you try to do everything that you need to do, or if you try to tackle ALL of your bad health habits at once, you are setting yourself up for failure. Just keep making small sustainable changes. If you only made 1 or 2 changes per month, you would probably keep them up, and after a year, you would have a MUCH healthier life-style. Can you imagine how active you would be if you just added ONE thing each month, for a year?
