Drink herbal tea when stressed out or upset. Chamomile tea will help calm you and is naturally sweet so just a touch of sweetner is needed. This is a calorie free way to get the hand to mouth comfort so many of us seek.
I take the pan I baked in and add about a cup of water to get all the flavor (deglazing). Then I put it in a freezer bag to use whenever I need to add flavoring to something I'm making, like gravy or soup. Much better for me than the store bought.
When hungry and in need of a snack, I go to the package, bag or box, measure out a single serving and put the rest away. I always used to think that would not satisfy me, but I have been pleasantly surprised to find it does. It also helps to curb my "grazing" or mindless nighttime eating.
If I find that I ran out of calories for dessert, I eat a single Hershey's kiss. It's only 22 calories and if you really savor it slowly it will satisfy your chocolate craving and keep you from feeling like eating healthy is such a hardship.
I eat 2 Viactiv calcium chews (20 cals each) when I have a sweet tooth! It does the trick.
Whenever I get thirsty for a shake/smoothies, I do this: use cup of nonfat milk, lots of ice, any fatfree flavoring and put it all in a blender until it's nice and smooth. Refreshing and no calories other the milk. It's gooood!!
I eat alone but I want it to look like it was served in a good restaurant. I use good china and candles. Then I eat at the table. The food looks so good I often take a picture.
(I live alone, so this is easy for me.)
Prep your meal...have everything ready to go. Then, make & eat your first course - salad or soup - & THEN cook & eat your main course. By the time you eat the main course, you will begin to feel full from the salad (or soup) & naturally eat less.
Flatout Flatbreads (I get mine at Costco). 100 calories for a really big serving (8 or 9 fiber grams). Use them for wraps, pizzas, quesadillas, home made pita chips - endless possiblities. They really help me get enough fiber.
We keep a bag of shredded cabbage on hand to add a healthy kick to meals. Very good on sandwiches as it adds bulk and a good crunch (remember putting potato chips on your sandwich?) Toss a handful into a stir fry or soup. Toss a little with rice wine vinegar for a quick pickle.
