Easy Vegetables

Toss some broccoli into your pasta that's boiling for a couple of minutes at the end. Then you bulk up your meal with healthy vegetables that are al dente along with your pasta! It doesn't get any easier than that!

Full flavor salad dressing alternatives

I recently tried a yogurt blue cheese dressing. It's delicious and tastes just like the full fat/calorie version at a fraction of the calories. The one I tried had only 35 calories per serving.

If you haven't tried it already...give yogurt dressings a try on your salads!

Gum!

Pop in a piece of mint gum (or flavored if you like it but mint is the strongest) to stop all the finger licking and tasting while you're cooking and baking. You won't wanna ruin the taste of the gum by eating the food. My sister and I own a cake business on the side, it helps to avoid eatng all of the sweet stuff.

Adding helpful kitchen aids to your Sparks grocery list

If you come across a handy kitchen aid you want to buy you can add it to the weekly shopping list.

Go to "My Nutrition" page,
"Add/Edit Extra Meal category",
In the pop-up "New Extra Meal Category" enter a word like "shops",
"Save settings",
which sends you back to "My Nutrition" page.

There is now a section for "shops"

Add kitchen aid under "Enter food not listed" then add it to the new "shops" section.

Press "Grocery List" and the new aid now appears under "Manually entered".

Easy Way To Poach Eggs

I LOVE poached eggs for breakfast and a fast and easy way to poach them is in the microwave. I get a bowl and fill it about 1/3 with water and heat it for 2 minute in the microwave. I then crack open two eggs into the water and microwave for another minute. Once done, I gently pour out excess water and then add salt and pepper to taste. YUM!

Secret to peeling hard boiled eggs

emoticon Add at least one Tablespoon of baking soda to the water I boil my eggs in. Also stir your eggs occasionally as they begin to boil, this keeps the yolk in the middle. The baking soda always makes the egg shells come off easily. 90 calories and packed with protein, hard boiled eggs are a great snack too. emoticon

I add spinach, broccoli, and zucchini to almost everything. Omelets, spaghetti, sometimes the family doesn't know:)

Chicken in a pinch

I bake or grill 5 or 6 boneless chicken breasts once a week. I cut them in half and put them in a zip loc bag and put them in the freezer. Any time I need some chicken for salad or quesadillas, I pull one out and microwave for 1 to 2 minutes. The chicken is very moist and fresh and readily available. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.

freezing space

I like to buy in bulk like burger meat or stew meat I unpack the meat and repack in ziplock bags most bags are filled with just the meat I will be cooking as I am alone I do not waste and by laying the bags flat I save space and defrosting is fast

making a SERRANO PEPPER taste good

take this simple pepper and prepare it for many of your favorite dishes by either putting a tsp of low fat butter or some oil of your choice in a frying pan. It does not take much but you want to saute it in something. Turn the stove top on low heat and just cook the Serrano Pepper until 4 sides are darkened (not burnt). It will then be soft and VERY TASTY with your meal. This is a SIMPLE something to make your meal interesting.
