Cooking ahead

I like to cook on the weekend to have meals prepared and ready when I walk in the door! Makes a great head start on the evening and my spare time!

One recipe at a time

The easiest way for me to get into a healthy habit is by going slowly. So I add one healthy recipe to my diet at a time. Then once I have that recipe down I add another and eventually everything we're eating at home is healthy. I might try a healthy dessert to add one week or a healthy entree next..

Applesauce

In many if not most baked goods, you can substitute unsweetened applesauce for cooking oil. 1/2 cup applesauce for 1/2 oil--and muffins, etc. are just as moist and delicious--and lower in fat and calories!

Savng the Sodium on Salad Dressing

I tried lemon juice as a dressing. It tasted much better than I thought and certainly helps in watching sodium levels.

Chewing Gum While Baking

To keep myself from cheating while baking for my family by licking the spoon or trying a crumb, I pop in a piece of gum. Simple yet effective!

Devin Alexander Cookbooks

Devin takes the food we love, ups the nutrition, lowers the calories and fat, and keeps it tasting just as good as the original. She wrote the Biggest Loser cookbooks, Fast Food Fix (which takes fast food favorites and makes them healthier), and The Most Decadent Diet Ever (my current favorite).

Hold The Oil

If you must use oil for cooking, use olive oil or canola oil. They are healthier and your food doesn't absorb the oil. And your body will thank you too. emoticon
