Coverage for preventative care such as colonoscopies, mammograms, blood presure and diabetes screenings have been greatly expanded...some more affordable, some free. I am Voting for Obama, I see other things getting better too! Besides I dont want the Romney/Ryan ticket to take away a women's right to choose or for some not being able to go to planned parenthood....for pap smears, mammograms & more... Mon, 5 Nov 2012 12:47:00 EST I knit when I'm stressed! Knitting keeps me away from stress eating! Mon, 5 Nov 2012 09:41:00 EST Being positive in a stressful situation When something unravels, like our plumbing yesterday, I try to do something postive in getting it resolved. Yesterday I helped dh turn off the water, we cleaned out the waterbox, called the city maintenence man and then the plumber, got the area that needed fixing cleared out so the plumber could get into the tiny space. I think I gasped at the bill but was able to work out a payment plan so he could get all of his money in time. 198 Fri, 2 Nov 2012 17:22:00 EST Brush you teeth Brushing my teeth right after my last meal of the day keeps me from snacking later in the evenng...brushing says I'm done eating for the day. I was having a rough day at work and beginning to fantasize about a binge. Instead, I began washing my hands. It was a wonderful time out for me, the water felt soothing and I felt as if I was literally washing away my urge to binge. I think it's all about, when you're in that emotional moment and thinking that you need food to soothe, you can still get that "time out" in so many other ways, like washing your hands. I quite literally "washed away" the desire to eat out of emotion.
Thu, 27 Sep 2012 08:30:00 EST HELP WITH STRESS My mother used to tell me and my siblings that stress causes cancer. Take a cool shower (lowers your body temp. which is necessary for sleep). Read a book for 20 or 30 minutes. Have white noise (like a fan) in your room to drown out any outside noises. Wear a sleep mask to block out light. My "recipe" (most of which was recommended by my doc) works like a charm for this "former" insomniac. :-) Sleep tight! Wed, 12 Sep 2012 09:40:00 EST Chew gum!! Teachers find it much easier to share out the muffin cups than having a bunch of grubby hands reaching into a communal tray of food (particularly if there is dip). "May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself & others. May you use the gifts that you have received, & pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, & allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise & love. It is there for each & every one of us." ~ Mother Teresa Fri, 18 Nov 2011 12:52:00 EST Warm-up before bed It seems as if, as soon as I crawl into bed & settle down, I am immediately cold. When I'm cold, i can't fall asleep. So I spend about 15 min. before going to bed walking in place. I've heard that physical activity before bed is not conducive to sleep, but if I'm cold I can't sleep anyway. A brisk walk in place while doing arm movements (arm circles, shadow boxing, pumping my arms) warms me up, adds 1500-2000 steps to my day, and puts me to sleep rather quickly. Sat, 12 Nov 2011 19:36:00 EST Sneak Those Steps In I wear my pedometer daily and make my best effort to get in my 10000 steps. Weekends are especially difficult, but now I have a little trick. I do my laundry on weekends, as I fold or hang clothes I immediately put mine away and walk my son's to his room (they stay on his bed until he puts them away) and lay hubby's on his side of the bed, but walking to do all that means the steps really add up.
