Many people find it hard to accept a compliment or praise when they are just doing something they should’ve done anyways. For example, if someone praises you for exercising or eating right...how do you take it? Do you allow yourself to celebrate your success or do you think I don't deserve praise; I'm just doing what I should? If you don't allow yourself to celebrate your victories, no matter if they seem like common sense or not, you might find it difficult to remain consistent to your goals, especially with things you are supposed to be doing anyways. So, for the next few weeks, when someone comments on something you've done or a goal that you are trying to pursue...take it as a compliment and allow yourself to celebrate that success. You will find that people are more likely to support you and your goals if you are willing to take compliments when they are given!

I believe this is a "thought translation" of a story in the scripture told by Jesus about the hired servant. Indeed, there is something to be said in obedience to "what we ought to do" but honor comes from going the extra mile. IMHO...Have a great day!

A little bit of praise goes a long way. Even if that praise is for something we should be doing anyway, it still gives a sense of worth and respect. To earn respect we also need to give it.

Honest praise feels good--- If we receive a word of praise from the boss, we may be doing the required job, but to hear a compliment feels nice. More bosses would get better perfomances by giving a "pat on the back" occasionally. Good work relationships happen with good management skills.
take it as a compliment and allow yourself to celebrate that success Caring for my DH who has alzheimers is a pleasure and something I should be doing anyway and am complimented often and accept with grace and humility One day at a time
I agree and disagree with this quote. We need to do the necessities without being asked to without expecting something back in return but a job well done. But I also have found in children and employees as well as ourselves we deserve to know the job has been well done because we will continue to strive and do a good job or exceed the next time. Donna
In a different perspective this makes sense. I saw a Dr Phil show about arguing spouses and the husband said he didn't come home drunk, he worked and he didn't have affairs. Phil responded that that was what he was supposed to be doing, why did he need praise for that?!
I was taught it was impolite to "toot your own horn" but I say " If you don't toot your horn, it mayis never get toottedair and when someone else "toots it", it's just plain rude to not "toot" back!
So "Toot" when ya see me and I will do the same for you Sparkfriends!!!
